Project Narrative
Drawing inspiration from Le Corbusier’s ethos, the built form embraces exposed concrete and raw brick with conviction. Yet, the structure is thoughtfully broken down into human-scale volumes, each block designed in relation to its function. This fragmentation softens the building’s dramatic presence, grounding it in a sense of domesticity. Green pockets, glass inserts, and angled brickwork across the façade help punctuate the linearity of the design, adding rhythm and variation. The entrance, carefully composed, reveals a staircase bathed in daylight—a subtle cue that leads the eye inward towards the living spaces.
The wooden and glass staircase becomes more than a connector between levels; it’s a sculptural feature. Much like the rest of the home, it embodies an abstract approach where design elements function as independent visual expressions while still contributing to the larger whole. The living area’s adaptability is a defining feature—through finely engineered Centre doors and built-in screens, the space transforms into a screened-in porch, inviting nature and breeze into the interiors. This interplay of openness and enclosure is both spatially dynamic and climatically responsive.
Internally, the residence is anchored by concrete ceilings with distinctive 45-degree grooved patterns—an assertive element balanced by the softness of wood, brass accents, and diffused natural light. The interiors are clean, modern, and tactile, composed of contemporary furniture and artistic interventions that mirror the architectural language.
Art plays an integral role in the design narrative. Inspired by Le Corbusier’s art, abstract murals, vivid fabrics, and installations punctuate the interiors, particularly in the master bedroom. Here, a traditional "taanabaana"-inspired leather headboard, rustic concrete ceiling, and side tables with Italian finishes work in harmony to create a layered, tactile experience. Vertical patterns throughout the home, combined with a carefully curated material palette, contribute to its visual and experiential identity.
Materials such as grey marble, wooden flooring, Dani textured cladding, customized fixtures, and premium bath and lighting brands like Kohler and Futura, reinforce the sense of understated luxury. This villa stands as a tribute to refined brutalism—one that is as much about raw expression as it is about the comfort and nuance of everyday living.
