Project Narrative
The design is anchored in the notion of protection. A long, bold wall defines the front edge of the property, acting as both shield and sculptural element. It buffers the house from noise and visual chaos while establishing an immediate sense of stillness upon entry. Rather than remaining a solid barrier, the wall is punctured with carefully placed circular voids that allow filtered light and air to pass through. These openings soften the enclosure and introduce a recurring design language that extends across facades, door patterns, paving, and interior details, creating a rhythmic play of light and shadow.
At the heart of the house lies its defining element, the corridor. Running like a spine through the length of the residence, it connects every space and shapes the home into a linear, experiential journey. More than a circulation path, the corridor becomes the soul of the house, gently unfolding living spaces, bedrooms, and recreational areas along its edges. Flanked by courtyards, lawns, and pockets of green, it ensures natural light, ventilation, and visual relief throughout.
Entry is modest, through a picket gate that leads directly into the corridor. On one side, a serene courtyard houses the pooja space, where soft daylight filters through a perforated pergola. Moving inward, the family living area opens toward greenery, maintaining a constant dialogue with nature. Opposite the corridor, the dining area, kitchen, and utility spaces are efficiently arranged, balancing functionality with openness. The staircase, positioned midway, rises alongside internal courtyards that bring light deep into the plan.
As the corridor continues, it leads to two bedrooms oriented toward green voids for privacy and ventilation. Adjacent to the facade, the swimming pool reflects evening light onto the ochre wall, offering both visual and climatic relief. The upper floor accommodates a compact gymnasium and an additional bedroom, maintaining the same balance of enclosure and openness through filtered views.
The material palette remains subtle and grounded. Warm ochre plastered walls, rich wooden elements, grey stone flooring, and minimal black detailing create a timeless composition. Perforated surfaces cast shifting shadows through the day, lending the architecture a quiet, living quality.
The Corridor House ultimately becomes a study in balance. Protective yet open, solid yet breathable, it offers a calm refuge within a fast-moving context, proving that privacy need not mean isolation, but thoughtful engagement.
