Crest-Noushad Residence

Crest–Noushad Residence is a 4,550 sq. ft. home in Vailathur, Tirur, Malappuram, Kerala, designed by Selva Sidiq N as a bold exploration of geometry, symbolism, and climate-responsive living. Inspired by the five-pointed pentagram, the residence transforms a geometric concept into a spatial framework that defines its identity and organisation. A central connective spine links two distinct volumes, separating public and private zones while encouraging movement and visual continuity. Courtyards and reflective water features along this axis enhance daylight, ventilation, and spatial experience. The home’s architectural language is established through illuminated pentagonal entrance frames, exposed brickwork, cement-finished structural elements, and terracotta textures that root the design within Kerala’s architectural context. Patterned brick screens provide privacy while creating dynamic plays of light and shadow. Inside, curved interventions soften the angular composition. A cylindrical timber-louvre partition and a circular prayer room overlooking a private courtyard introduce warmth and contemplation. At the heart of the residence, a triple-height stairwell illuminated by a seven-metre-high window creates a dramatic vertical core. Through its integration of geometry, materiality, and passive environmental strategies, Crest presents a contemporary interpretation of tropical residential architecture.
