Project Narrative
The design narrative draws from the symbolic meaning of its name—Dehleez, which translates to "threshold" in several South Asian languages. Just like a threshold bridges two worlds, this residence balances heritage with modern expression. The client’s brief called for a traditional aesthetic that avoided heavy wood finishes while seamlessly integrating the existing courtyard into the living experience. The designers responded with a creative blend of digitally carved furniture, printed stained-glass alternatives, and contemporary interpretations of timeless forms.
A signature element is the central courtyard, once disconnected from the home’s core functions, now transformed into its soul. Flanked by arched, operable doors and infused with filtered light, the courtyard blurs boundaries between inside and out. Arched doorways with digitally printed stained glass evoke nostalgia, while showcasing the power of modern technology in preserving craft.
The entrance foyer creates a powerful first impression, with a carved wooden Ganesha door and a radiant blue console featuring laser-cut Indian motifs. Hanging multicoloured lights, a traditional mural, and an ethnic wooden bench establish a space that is both culturally rich and visually calming. A dedicated Brahma Kumari temple, defined by white and gold tones, anchors spiritual serenity at the entry point.
The interiors are an elegant dance between restraint and expression. The living room ceiling is hand-painted with classical motifs, while arched windows frame the verdant courtyard. Every artifact and piece of furniture is curated with intention, contributing to a space steeped in history and harmony. The dining area continues this ethos with a gold-leaf and blue-toned palette, traditional furniture reimagined, and arched access to the outdoors.
In the private zones, design detailing speaks volumes. The master bedroom combines a traditionally themed bed with blue-toned accents. The walk-in wardrobe features Sabyasachi wallpaper and beige tones, while ethnic patterns define the bathrooms. The parents’ bedroom exudes timeless elegance with gold-tinted tiles and fixtures. A striking metal staircase, adorned with traditional wooden frames and set against gold-tinted walls, connects the floors with sculptural poise.
