Doreme

Walking into Doreme, North East India’s leading kids wear brand, feels like stepping into a giant, high-fashion sewing kit. Located in Kolkata, the brand’s new 3,600 sq.ft. workspace and showroom transform the visual language of clothing into an immersive interior experience, where threads, buttons, fabrics and colours become architectural elements.
Designed by Pooja Bihani of Spaces and Design, the project brings workplace and visual merchandising together within a former warehouse shell. Moving beyond conventional corporate interiors, the design uses curved forms, soft textures and vibrant accents to create an environment that is open, tactile and playful. Amoebic and oval workstations, minimal visual barriers and a nearly 20-foot-long central showroom table establish fluid circulation and connectivity.
At the heart of the showroom, a dramatic lime-green canopy creates a sunburst effect, while custom oval lighting tracks and layered illumination support product visibility and accurate colour perception. Against a palette of white and muted grey, neon greens, pinks, oranges and yellows inject energy and reflect the playful spirit of childhood.
The fabric narrative continues through transition spaces, where layered curtains replace conventional partitions. Made from Doreme’s own fabrics, the panels echo the drape and folds of garments, while bold prints and hand-laced stitched screens add texture and movement.
Tailoring-inspired details appear throughout the workspace. Perforated cross-stitch patterns define storage units, oversized buttons become handles, and transparent workstation bases display thousands of colour-sorted buttons, zippers, yarns and drawstrings sourced from the brand’s production materials. Caterpillar-shaped gondolas in Doreme green function as movable displays, while stepped units double as merchandise platforms and informal seating.
By giving the elements of garment-making a permanent architectural presence, the design turns Doreme’s creative process into an experience. The result is part workplace, part showroom and part playful wonderland- a vibrant setting where making, working and storytelling seamlessly converge.
