House of Filtered Light, located in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, and designed by Sumati Aggarwal, is a residence that transforms the region’s intense sunlight into its defining architectural feature. Rather than resisting the harsh climate, the design embraces and filters natural light to create a comfortable and dynamic living environment. Organized around a central courtyard, the home promotes cross-ventilation while drawing daylight deep into the interiors. Carefully positioned openings, layered façade treatments, and tilted exterior louvers moderate solar gain, enhance privacy, and maintain visual openness. A striking double-height entrance establishes the home’s relationship with light from the moment of arrival. As sunlight moves through the spaces, it creates shifting patterns of brightness and shadow that animate the interiors throughout the day. Inside, natural stone flooring, textured finishes, neutral palettes, and curated furnishings create a warm, understated atmosphere. Open living areas benefit from abundant daylight, while private spaces use layered materials and controlled lighting to enhance comfort and intimacy.
