This residence in Agra responds to the complexity of a narrow, linear site by embracing its constraints as a creative opportunity. The brief called for two separate yet unified family units, and the design rises to this challenge by rooting itself around a shared central courtyard- a space that becomes the heart and breath of the home.
The courtyard is not just an architectural device; it’s a cultural and emotional anchor. Connecting both homes through a common living space, it offers moments of togetherness without compromising on individual privacy. It draws light deep into the house, allowing the architecture to sculpt natural light into volumes, creating ever-changing patterns and moods across the day.
The material palette pays homage to Agra’s craft heritage while reflecting a modern sensibility. Locally sourced black and grey marble, carefully selected and finished with a mix of polish and flame textures, gives the home a tactile elegance. These materials are not just decorative- they are functional, sustainable, and chosen for their thermal comfort and timeless beauty.
