Project Narrative
Central to the design are multiple open-to-sky courtyards intricately carved within the rectilinear volume of the two-storey home. These courtyards serve as tranquil sanctuaries that enhance the spatial experience, fostering a seamless connection between the interior spaces and the expansive natural landscape. The design ethos prioritized preserving the existing ecosystem, ensuring no trees were disturbed during construction. Even the cobblestone driveway gracefully meanders around the majestic mango trees, respecting their presence and integrating them into the home's entrance sequence.
Crafted from locally-sourced materials, the villa exudes a sustainable charm that resonates throughout its aesthetic. Locally available brick forms the sturdy framework, complemented by a sand-faced plaster finish that blends effortlessly with the earthy tones of the surroundings. Inside, the interiors feature a medley of textures including slate tiles, warm woods, and textured paints, creating a tactile and inviting atmosphere.
Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed by louvered gates leading to a picturesque cobblestone driveway culminating in a serene drop-off point. A bougainvillea-adorned metal canopy marks the entrance, setting the tone for the organic elegance that defines the home. The architectural layout strategically incorporates punctured openings that flood the interiors with natural light and ventilation, facilitated by the open-to-sky courtyards strategically positioned throughout.
The heart of the home unfolds within a double-height living room, visually connecting both floors and serving as a communal focal point. The ground floor seamlessly integrates living, dining, kitchen, and guest spaces, while an elegant staircase crafted from freestanding black metal ascends to the private quarters on the first floor. Each of the three bedrooms boasts ensuite bathrooms designed to embrace natural light, courtesy of hidden open-to-sky courtyards that add a touch of secluded tranquility.
Embracing contemporary design principles rooted in sustainability, the villa's windows are framed in sleek black aluminum, while doors fashioned from recycled Burma teak add a rich, eco-conscious touch. Teakwood furniture and vibrant art pieces punctuate the interiors with splashes of color, enriching the serene palette of muted tones. Outside, a metal canopy over the entrance and living area blurs the distinction between indoor and outdoor realms, inviting nature to coalesce with the built environment.
