MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum
Featured work by Avadhut Kadu · Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai · May 5, 2026
Set within the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum reinterprets the legacy of Mumbai cricket as an immersive spatial narrative. Designed under the leadership of AvadhutKadu at SSA, the 8,000 sq. ft. museum moves beyond the conventional archive, transforming history into an engaging and participatory experience.
The journey begins with a ceremonial threshold marked by the presence of Sharad Pawar and Sunil Gavaskar, establishing a sense of reverence and institutional memory. From here, the museum unfolds through a series of curated zones that trace the evolution of the Mumbai Cricket Association since 1935. Galleries such as the Ranji Trophy display and the Hall of Fame- featuring legends like Sachin Tendulkar- situate individual achievements within a broader collective narrative.
The spatial experience is carefully choreographed, balancing openness with narrative focus. The design draws from a colonial architectural vocabulary, incorporating arches, mouldings, and timber detailing that evoke the heritage of cricket’s formative years. This historic sensibility is layered with a rich material palette of polished wood, copper accents, and black stone flooring, offset by deep navy and warm neutral tones.
Beyond static displays, the museum integrates interactive zones such as a Cricket Theatre and Quiz Arena, encouraging active engagement across generations. These immersive interventions, supported by digital technologies, transform spectators into participants- bridging past and present through experiential storytelling.
The journey culminates in the Dr. H. D. Kanga Memorial Library, offering a contemplative pause that balances the energy of the preceding galleries. Here, the narrative shifts from spectacle to reflection, reinforcing the emotional depth of the experience.
More than a repository of artefacts, the MCA Cricket Museum becomes a living archive- where memory, identity, and the spirit of the game are continuously reimagined through space and experience.
