Project Narrative
Led by Designers Group under the direction of Khozema Chitalwala, the project retained the building’s foundational architecture while introducing strategic spatial reconfigurations to embed Radisson’s refined aesthetic throughout the property. “The transition demanded not just a technical overhaul but a thoughtful reimagining of the design narrative,” notes Chitalwala, underscoring the balance between continuity and transformation.
Deeply rooted in its context, the design draws inspiration from Khandala’s mist-laden hills and cascading waterfalls, weaving the region’s natural poetry into the interiors. Monochromatic black-and-white artworks referencing local landscapes act as emotive anchors across public spaces, grounding the hotel in its geographical setting. This site-responsive approach is further informed by the hotel’s proximity to Imagica, shaping a spatial flow that caters seamlessly to leisure travellers seeking a destination between Mumbai and Lonavala.
Design ingenuity comes to the forefront in addressing site constraints. Limited floor-to-floor heights were transformed into opportunities through dramatic double-height lobby cut-outs, introducing vertical openness and visual relief. Environmental considerations were equally integral- room orientations and circulation pathways were strategically planned to mitigate radiation impact from a nearby high-tension line, demonstrating a thoughtful integration of design intelligence and sensitivity.
The material palette reflects what the design team defines as an “urban resort” philosophy- quietly luxurious, resilient, and low-maintenance. Subtle tonal variations and layered textures lend the interiors a grounded sophistication that aligns seamlessly with Radisson’s brand language, while curated materials and bespoke art introduce a nuanced regional character.
Radisson Khopoli stands as a versatile hospitality destination, catering to families, business travellers, and event hosts alike. With expansive guest rooms, dining and wellness amenities, banquet halls, lawns, and MICE facilities, the hotel emerges as a landmark that effortlessly bridges global standards with local relevance- redefining contemporary hospitality in the region.
