Sukoon- A Home Rooted in Calm

Located in Vadodara, Gujarat, Sukoon is a 2,500 sq. ft. G+2 family bungalow designed by Kopal Trivedi as a home deeply rooted in calmness, nature, and mindful living. Inspired by Japandi principles and the relaxed atmosphere of Balinese retreats, the project reinterprets contemporary family living through a restrained palette of lime plaster, natural wood, cane, linen, and earthy neutral tones. The clients initially envisioned a monochromatic home filled with greenery, but the design evolved into a warmer and more tactile environment that responded more closely to the architecture and their lifestyle. Several key spatial interventions transformed the original builder-proposed layout. The most significant was the courtyard, where a conventional square opening was replaced with a circular window, softening the geometry while creating a striking visual connection to the sky. This courtyard became the heart of the home, drawing natural light and ventilation deep into the interiors. The living area embodies the project's philosophy of understated elegance. Lime-washed walls, soft linen upholstery, handcrafted wooden furniture, and expansive glazing overlooking the courtyard create an atmosphere that feels open, breathable, and connected to nature. A custom dining table crafted from a raw timber log, paired with sculptural cane pendants, introduces warmth and artisanal character. Private spaces continue the material narrative through curved furniture profiles, cane-detailed wardrobes, and carefully optimised layouts. In the master suite, the integration of an existing balcony created a dedicated dressing area, while the bathroom was redesigned into a larger, more fluid dressing-bath experience. The children’s bedroom introduces a playful contrast through pastel tones, a custom bunk bed, and an integrated slide. Perhaps most striking is the way circulation spaces are celebrated rather than minimised. Bridge-like passages overlooking the courtyard become moments of pause and reflection, reinforcing the home's connection to light, air, and nature. In Sukoon, minimalism is not an aesthetic exercise but a way of living—one that prioritises comfort, simplicity, and meaningful everyday experiences.
