Hyderabad recently welcomed the rebirth of an iconic culinary destination—Tansen, reimagined by Anirudh Osur of Design Epicenter. With over 15 years of legacy, Tansen’s revival transcends conventional restaurant design, embracing a ‘disruptive’ philosophy that treats space as a living, breathing environment. The design seamlessly merges history and modernity, creating a sensory-rich experience where grandeur, tranquility, and craftsmanship coexist harmoniously. Guided by the essence of Mughal architecture, Tansen draws inspiration from the symmetry, scale, and serenity of Mughal gardens. Expansive ceilings and sweeping walls instill an immediate sense of opulence, while carefully curated materials—lime-plastered walls, marble inlays, and stained glass partitions- marry traditional craftsmanship with contemporary precision. Every element, from golden calligraphy to baroque-inspired armchairs, reinforces the narrative of timeless elegance, creating an immersive atmosphere that evokes both awe and warmth. Water, a central motif, weaves throughout the interiors. Long waterways and reflective pools transform the space into a tranquil oasis, where the gentle sound of cascading water interacts with light to heighten sensory engagement. Mammoth pillars adorned with jewel-toned florals, floating verandahs, and strategic lighting guide visitors through a visual journey that celebrates Mughal artistry while providing a contemporary interpretation suitable for modern dining. The interiors were meticulously developed in collaboration with restaurateur Amar Ohri, ensuring that functionality and aesthetics coexist effortlessly. Curved hallways, crimson chandeliers, and semi-open seating areas create pockets for intimacy, conversation, and pause, while retaining an overarching sense of openness. Rich textures, vibrant colors, and rhythmic patterns provide layers of visual intrigue, reinforcing the restaurant’s distinctive design language. Tansen’s design stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful architecture.
