The Art of Deco

Located in Raipur, The Art of Deco by Creative Design reinterprets the grandeur of Art Deco through a lens of restraint and quiet sophistication. Designed by Sinchal Patel Wadhwa, with assistance from Samiksha Shrivastava and Pradeep Yadav, the 3,285 sq. ft. residence embraces material richness and geometric elegance without succumbing to excess. The project was envisioned for a family that valued simplicity over spectacle. In response, the design retains the essence of Art Deco—its curvature, symmetry, and layered detailing—while softening its traditional extravagance into a more intimate and contemporary expression. At the centre of this narrative stands a sculptural spiral staircase, which becomes both the visual anchor and organising principle of the home. Materiality drives the spatial experience. Walnut veneer, Diana Italian marble, PU-finished surfaces, stucco walls, and sage-grey louvres create a palette that feels tactile, warm, and composed. Every detail reflects careful calibration—from bespoke in-house furniture to millimetre-precise joinery and doors finished differently on either side to respond to adjoining spaces. Here, luxury emerges not through ornamentation, but through thoughtful execution. The living and dining spaces maintain a strong visual continuity through layered textures, brass accents, and carefully repeated design motifs. A ceramic chandelier acts as a recurring spatial element, reinforcing cohesion throughout the home. In contrast, the puja mandir introduces a quieter, contemplative atmosphere where walnut cabinetry, brass bells, and a central Pichwai panel merge devotion with refined craftsmanship. Private spaces carry the same disciplined elegance while allowing individuality to emerge. Tropical murals, faux leather detailing, stitched wall panels, and custom cabinetry create rooms that feel personal yet deeply connected to the overall design language.
