UP House

Shaped by its unique site context, the UP House is visualized as a bold expression of modern architecture through multi-faceted cuboidal forms and sharply defined edges. One of its most striking elements is the U-shaped projection on the first floor, which reads almost like an architectural bench—an invitation to pause and engage. The home is spatially divided into three distinct bays on the ground level, each programmed with specific functions to create a dynamic yet balanced living experience. The first bay is dedicated to the public zones of the house, encompassing a pooja area, a dining space, and an open kitchen that cleverly integrates hideaway storage for seamless functionality. The central, wider bay forms the heart of the home, hosting a spacious family living room. Here, the cube’s volume is carved inward to enhance visual and spatial connectivity with the outdoors. Lush greenery flanks both sides of this bay, and a floating concrete staircase appears to dissolve into the surrounding landscape, blurring the line between architecture and nature. The third bay is reserved for the private realm, housing tranquil bedroom suites. Informed by the principles of Vaastu Purusha Mandala and an in-depth site analysis of solar and wind paths, the design offers optimal natural lighting and cross ventilation throughout the day. The spatial planning is conceived as an exploration of interlocked volumes, articulated with eclectic interiors set within an open floor plan. Inspired by the client’s love for travel, the house evokes the romance of European streetscapes and the dramatic terrains of the Grand Canyon—each space is a narrative in itself, designed to trigger memory and emotion. This client, being a connoisseur of lighting and automation, enabled the team to experiment with unique furniture modules and interactive design elements. These include automation switchboard pods, a 360-degree rotating wardrobe that doubles as a staircase step, a Zen hardscape garden beneath the staircase, a floating bench in the courtyard, and even a red canyon-inspired bespoke TV unit that transforms into a study table. The home becomes a living gallery, where design innovation elevates everyday experiences. Materiality plays a critical role in tying the home together. The use of Alaskan White marble flooring—an experimental first—sets a pristine canvas upon which materials like natural veneer, glass, and exposed concrete create a refined yet tactile dialogue. Each finish is thoughtfully chosen to harmonize tone and texture, creating a continuous spatial flow and lending the residence its signature sophistication.
