VILLA M01 (Mediterraneo 01)
Featured work by Antonio Baroncelli · Ibiza, Spain · September 2, 2025
Suspended between the sea and the lush Mediterranean scrubland, Visionnaire’s new residence in Ibiza embodies the Italian Meta Luxury brand’s evolving stylistic vision. Designed by Antonio Baroncelli, co-founder of MetroArea Architetti Associati, the villa is a powerful yet poetic expression of brutalist architecture, shaped by the island’s natural contours. Organic in its articulation, the house cascades across multiple levels, merging with the hillside while framing panoramic views of the Gulf of Ibiza.
The villa establishes a seamless dialogue between nature, tradition, and contemporary design. Large sliding glass walls function as transparent membranes, flooding the interiors with natural light while integrating greenery and sky into the living spaces. At the heart of the home, a central patio recalls the Roman impluvium—collecting rainwater that flows into a cascading waterfall and stream, uniting the villa’s two outdoor pools. Canopies, hanging gardens, and custom bamboo shutters reinterpret traditional Mediterranean elements with minimalist sophistication, balancing openness with shade and privacy.
Spread across three levels, the residence reprograms the archetype of a house by responding directly to the terrain. The ground floor accommodates the master suite and six guest bedrooms, each arranged around verdant patios and linked to the main pool. On the first floor, expansive living and dining areas are enhanced by a 15-meter sliding glass door, alongside a kitchen, wellness zone, and a secondary pool. The upper level offers a panoramic belvedere and private sleeping areas, immersing residents in breathtaking views of sea and landscape.
Materiality plays a central role in shaping the villa’s character. Board-formed concrete and dry stone walls ground the structure in the island’s geology, while warm woods, sustainable fabrics, and leathers soften the brutalist framework with an intimate tactility. This restrained palette avoids ostentation, instead cultivating an atmosphere of timeless hospitality and understated luxury. Referencing Roman, Spanish, and Arab influences, as well as Italian expressionism and the lessons of Steiner, Busiri Vici, and Couelle, the design resonates as a layered cultural dialogue.
Inside, Visionnaire presents a curated selection of its Hero Products, including the Babylon Rack Circle system, the Kerwan table, the Aubade bed by Alessandro La Spada, and iconic Shibari armchairs by Studiopepe. Each piece reinforces the brand’s evolving aesthetic: contemporary, inclusive, and deeply rooted in artisanal excellence.
“From the island’s sea to its deep green scrubland, this villa translates the landscape into a coherent project where Italian savoir-faire meets an international vision,” explains Eleonore Cavalli, Visionnaire’s Creative Director. More than a home, the residence represents a new paradigm of living—organic, fluid, and inextricably linked with nature and history—embodying a Mediterranean lifestyle that is both timeless and forward-looking.
